We do a lot of sash window refurbishment, but anticipate doing even more. Windows that are 50 years old, and were made of the best materials and with fine craftsmanship, might need only TLC, whereas 20 year old windows of faster-growing, cheaper woods and simpler fabrication often require fundamental repair. But it’s still worth doing – refurbishment isn’t cheap, but it still costs less than replacement, and, in any case, we don’t want to be sending untold material to landfill for no reason other than convenience, do we? In addition to the repair of wooden sashes and box frames, we re-glaze where necessary, replace worn or snapped sash cords and re-balance if replacement glass or new materials mean the sash weighs differently after renovation.
